Walking about the Parks of Yerevan

The capital of Armenia Yerevan is a modern city, which perfectly combines classical architecture and examples of a modern architecture. Buildings of the Armenian tuff pink look more colorful on the background of strict multi-storey buildings. All the picture is complemented by beautiful parks and public gardens. Let’s find out which are the most beautiful parks in Yerevan and where they are located.

CITY PARK

Boulevard, which starts from Republic Square and ends at Shahumyan Square is City Park. Across the whole park there are fountains that have 2,750 jets. The fountain was inaugurated in 1968 in honor of the 2750th anniversary of Yerevan. Fountain is an original symbol of the old town, reminiscent of the story of the millennium.

ENGLISH PARK

This is one of the oldest gardens in Yerevan, which was opened in the 19th century. In the area of the park in those days there lived the aristocracy of the city: there were located the best hotels and shops in the city. The street on which the park is located, was called Astafyevskaya (in honor of Major General Astafiev). English Park was opened by Astafievs. The park is large enough. The National Academic Theater after Sundukyan is located in the park.  The Embassy of France and Italy are located not far from the park. In the center of the park there is a beautiful fountain.

LOVERS’ PARK

Yerevan is a city of lovers and those are not just words. The city even has a Lovers’ Park, where every corner is injected with romantic atmosphere. The park is located on Baghramyan Avenue, next to the Parliament. Lovers Park is also known as the Pushkin park, which was reconstructed in 2008 and became a small area for lovers.

Lovers park often is the most popular place for wedding photoshoots, because the park has beautiful waterfalls, creek, a small bridge and trees.

PARK AFTER TUMANYAN

Garden named after Tumanyan is one of the most popular local parks. The park is located on  Halabyan streetover Hrazdan Gorge and near the Kievyan bridge. It is ideal for family holidays; trees, river, clean benches, tennis courts and football field, swing, fountain and beautiful views of the gorge and the bridge.

The center of creative technologies “Tumo” is located on the territory of the park. This is the center where the most talented Armenian children and teenagers are studying web-design, animation, digital media, etc. Center has no analogues in the CIS, it constantly attracts local and foreign sponsors.

TAMANYAN PARK

One of the most colorful sights in Yerevan, which attracts tourists, is the Cascade. There is a beautiful avenue in the center that leads to Cascade. It is decorated with flowers and a beautiful lawn, but the most remarkable thing in the park Tamanyan is the collection of sculptures of contemporary art by popular artists. It is a kind of open-air contemporary art museum. Before the “entrance” to the square there is a monument to the great Armenian architect Alexander Tamanyan, which is the architect of Yerevan. And at the end of the square there rises beautiful Cascade.

CHILDREN’S RAILWAY

Children’s Railway was opened in 1937 and today it is one of the most favorite places for both adults and children. The park and the railway are in the valley, on the left bank of the river Hrazdan.

The most fascinating in the park is a tunnel through which the railway passes. The tunnel is overgrown with trees and bushes and looks like a picture from a fairy tale. This is a favorite place for photographers: pictures taken here are nothing but unreal.

VICTORY PARK

The largest amusement park in Yerevan, located on Avenue Azatutsyan is Victory park. The park opened after World War II and is dedicated to the victory. In the park there is a museum dedicated to World War II, which displays documents, photographs and everything that is associated with the participation of Armenia in the Great Patriotic War. The museum is located at the foot of the monument “Mother Armenia”, which embodies the spirit and courage of the Armenian people. Before the statue (the height is 43 m) is a beautiful view of the city.

Victory Park a great place for both children and adults. The park has a lot of fun rides for the little ones as well as children above 10 years. Adults can also relax and enjoy the warm Yerevan nights on the shore of a small lake.

The city has a lot of public parks that adorn areas and are considered an important part of the city.
