UWC International School in Dilijan

UWC International School in Dilijan

Dilijan is one of the most beautiful resort towns that attracts tourists all over the world. Today we will talk about the first international school UWC in Armenia.

UWC Dilijan College was opened in 2014, thanks to Ruben Vardanyan, Veronika Zonabend and other partners. This is the first international school of UWC in the territory of the CIS. The school is fully compliant with the standards of UWC colleges. Teaching is conducted exclusively in English.

Why was Dilijan chosen for the construction of the college? As we have already said, Dilijan is one of the most beautiful cities. The city and the school itself are located on the territory of the reserve, surrounded by mountains and dense forests. Clean mountain air and the nature of unique beauty keeps children closer to nature.

School is built and equipped with the latest technology. The materials are environmentally safe, the school itself is built so that it has a minimal negative impact on the environment. The college campus covers an area of 37,000 square meters, including the main building of the school, a sports center (football, volleyball, basketball field, tennis court), a medical center, a hostel and other buildings to ensure the functioning of the school.

After the opening, the school accepted 96 students from 50 countries, but the number of students increases every year. By 2023, it is planned to host more than 650 students from 60 countries from all over the world.

This is a unique small infrastructure; it is the school of the future. Children from all over the world gather in one place, with a chance to get acquainted and learn the cultures of other countries expanding their worldview. This experience in the early years clearly helps to find their way in life.

The selection of students takes place according to UWC standards; the admission committee conducts the interview, after which it distributes the students by country. The course at the school lasts two years: it is one of the most difficult and serious preparatory courses in the world, which opens the doors to any university. Knowledge is not the only criterion in the selection of students, the most important factor is the student himself. Education for the student should mean not only self-development but also a unique “weapon” that will help make the world a better place.

In addition to classes, students have quite rich after-school programs for summer and winter vacations. The territory already gives so many opportunities for active recreation (mountain skiing, swimming, mountaineering), walking tours in the Dilijan National Park and, of course, special programs compiled by professional teachers.

UWC Dilijan College turned Dilijan and Armenia into an educational center. Armenia has a unique chance to contribute to the upbringing of a new generation, a generation of the future.
