Thermal Springs in Armenia

The territory of Armenia is rich in mineral and thermal springs. Resort cities annually attract hundreds of thousands of tourists who come to improve health or just to enjoy the wonders of nature. Winter is coming and it’s time to talk about the hot springs in Armenia. On the territory of Armenia there are counted about 700 thermal springs, but not all are suitable for swimming. They are perfect for cold season, plus they have extremely useful properties.

Thermal Springs in Ararat

Thermal spring Spitaklich is located in Ararat valley, at an altitude of 830 m. above sea level. The water temperature is 24C. With its composition thermal spring belongs to poorly mineralized bicarbonate-potassium waters, has a high calcium content.

Around the source a pool is built for easy swimming and pavilion where you can relax.

Thermal Spring in Tatev

Hot Springs is located in one of the most beautiful places of Armenia. In Syunik region, near Satan’s Bridge (Satani Kamurj), at an altitude of 960 m above the sea level there is a thermal spring. The water temperature is 25C. With the the composition the spring source refers to the carbon-bicarbonate calcium water, with a small amount of iron. Source is left in its natural form, no trace of human intervention in nature is found. Moreover, here are  preserved the traces of ancient baths, which testify to the settlements dating BC. Similar traces were found in caves near the thermal spring.

Thermal Spring in Jermuk 

Jermuk is the most famous resort on the territory of Armenia due to its mineral and thermal springs. The unique composition of the mineral springs is ideal for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, and not only. In Jermuk there are more than 20 thermal springs, with tthe temperature of 64C. With the composition the springs belong to carbon hydro-sulphate-sodium water. Such composition and medicinal properties are similar to the springs in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.

Thermal Springs in Hanqavan 

Definitely the most popular thermal spring in Armenia is the on in Hanqavan, which has the most valuable therapeutic properties. The thermal spring is located at an altitude of 1900 m above sea level, in Kotayk region, 30 km from Tsakhkadzor (resort town). In composition, it belongs to the hydro-chloride sodium sources. The water temperature is about 42C. There are built 3 pools, each of them can accommodate 5 people.

Thermal Springs in Arzakan 

At an altitude of 1800 m above sea level there is a group of Arzakan thermal springs that relate to carbonate hydro-chloride-sodium sources. The composition and the beneficial properties of the thermal springs of Arzakan are similar to the waters of Vichy in France and Borjomi in Georgia. Thermal source has healing properties in diseases of the musculoskeletal system, nervous disorders, and problems with the circulatory system.
